Marketing Manager at The Leading Photography Education Website

About ExpertPhotography

We teach photography online. For free, mostly, but we also offer paid courses and ebooks too. This is where we make our money.

Founded in 2011 by Joshua Dunlop, our commitment to producing consistently high-quality articles and premium training have helped us to reach over 100,000 customers in 163 countries, with over 1.5 million monthly visitors.

And we’re proud to say that we’re now the most read photography education site in the world.

We’re in the process of growing a dream team of A-Players who can own their roles, and provide huge value to the company, themselves, and the people we serve.

Our Marketing Team

Our marketing team focuses on three objectives:

  1. Launching new products (through our email list, advertising, and on our website)
  2. Running seasonal and annual promotions
  3. Monetising the website through lead generation and email marketing

The team has grown to a size where it’s no longer realistic to be managed under the general manager alone.

The team includes:

  • Three marketing assistants
  • Two data visualisation persons
  • One trainee copywriter
  • One customer support person
  • One advertising person (mainly focusing on Facebook)
  • One videographer / video editor
  • One designer
  • Two developers (who won’t be managed by yourself, but will be at your disposal)
  • We’re also in the process of hiring a second marketing assistant and a data visualisation / advertising person

The current problem the marketing team is currently facing is that we are trying to achieve too much at once. We’re launching new products every two or three weeks, which leaves very little time to implement new ideas and scale successes across multiple campaigns.

We have a long list of ideas and fixes we’d like to implement, but our resources are limited. That should be solved with the hiring of a marketing manager, and a new marketing assistant.

Our Approach to Marketing

The way we approach marketing has enabled us to scale our business, and reliably turn visitors into customers. And it comes down to two key factors: systems and data.

Systems allow us to easily execute the tactical work so that we can focus our time and effort on the strategic. As these simply documented processes can be followed by almost anyone, they allow us to scales our results across multiple different campaigns with ease.

Data enables us to quickly make important decisions, through the use of dashboards and reports. Our data-based mindset allows us to approach everything we do with the future in mind, so whether it’s Facebook ads, email marketing, popups, or upsells… we always use proper naming conventions and automated reports.

When we combine these two factors, we’re able to execute the right decisions across multiple campaigns, fast.

The key to successful marketing is to focus on something that works, and get really good at it. That’s why we constantly evolve our processes and focus our attention where it matters most.

You’ll rarely find us trying a new form of marketing. Because the learning curve for success is time-consuming and expensive, and we expect to fail fast and often when we test something new.

“It’s not a good drug unless it’s been killed three times” | Safi Bahcall

Only when we believe fully in the potential of a marketing technique do we go full-steam ahead. That’s why we’re starting to explore YouTube ads, but don’t build messenger funnels, or push notification lists.

Your Role and Responsibilities

We’re looking for someone to be accountable for the team’s goals:

  • Launching a new digital product every 2-3 weeks
  • Running annual promotions in accordance with our marketing calendar
  • Running two marketing campaigns each month (either product launches or repromotions)
  • Building evergreen marketing funnels with organic lead generation
  • Scaling PPC (alongside the PPC manager) across Facebook and Google to a $1M+ annual spend

That will require you to:

  • Conduct weekly goal setting and review meetings for our team
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews
  • Conducting daily ‘war room’ marketing meetings
  • Manage our product launch process
  • Oversee or write sales copy for new sales pages and email campaigns
  • Oversee the advertising team to scale campaigns on Facebook and Google
  • Oversee the data team to conduct conversion optimisation and improve reporting
  • Utilise our designer and videographer to create marketing visuals
  • Utilise the developers to create software and make website changes to improve our monetisation and processes

As the manager, one of your most important responsibilities will be to coach and develop the talent we have on our team.

Our processes are very well documented, and we have a lot of internal training to help you get up to speed on how we operate.

Experience and Requirements

The right person will be analytical, can easily understand how complex campaigns work, and be very quick at picking up new skills.

For this, it’s essential that you have very high attention to detail and even higher quality standards.

  • You must be fluent in English
  • 2+ years of experience as a manager of a team of people who report directly to you
  • 3+ years of experience with digital marketing
  • 3+ years of experience with online marketing technologies such as CRM’s (we use Infusionsoft), advertising platforms, etc.
  • 2+ years of experience in either copywriting or advertising
  • Experience in photography is a bonus
  • Experience in hiring and firing is also preferable
  • A valid passport if you wish to join us at marketing conferences

Our Core Values

Our Core Values drive our team culture, processes, and output. These values set the tone for customer expectations in us and set team expectations for each other. These values enable us to have a highly productive, creative, and cohesive team of winning A-Players.

Core values are not what team members are expected to bring to work, but rather how they’re expected to approach their lives. You can’t fake a core value, and because they’re so important to us, we’ve only included the ones that we feel are truly essential to the success of the team’s goals.

Play to Win

Life and business is a game and we’re playing to win. We take massive action and operate with a lean, fast, and flexible team. We achieve seemingly-impossible goals by starting with the end in mind, choosing an opponent to beat, and setting milestones to reach along the way.

We take pride and celebrate both our successes and our failures because we are not afraid of losing. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.

Deliver Massive Value

You can’t expect to win until you first deserve it. We have become the go-to resource for photographers by providing a level of education and service that is unparalleled by our competition. And we continually strive to outdo ourselves in any way we can.

Creative Problem Solvers

Happiness comes from solving problems. True happiness occurs only when you find the problems you enjoy having and enjoy solving. As a team of highly intelligent A-Players, we work together to solve interesting problems and communicate in a way that’s clear for everyone in our international team to understand.

Take Ownership of Goals

As you take ownership and move towards your goals, you will encounter problems. Some of those problems will bring you up against your own weaknesses. If you want to reach your goals, you must be calm and analytical so that you can accurately diagnose your problems, design a plan that will get you around them, and do what’s necessary to push through to results.

To evolve quickly, you will have to do this fast and continuously, setting your goals successively higher.

Work Collaboratively

You are not in this alone. Ask team members for help in achieving your goals, and be open to them when they ask for your help. Make time and space for each other. Document your work internally so that every member of the team can easily find and understand it.

Lifelong Learning

Your income will rarely exceed your level of personal development. Take it upon yourself to constantly be learning. Whether that’s something that will help you to perform better at work, build better relationships, be more healthy, more spiritual, whatever it is… make sure you never stop learning. And read as much as you can get your hands on.

This is an exciting opportunity at a young and fun online photography business in the heart of Budapest. You’ll work with a great team to achieve clearly defined quarterly goals and help us stay on track with our business.

Apply Now

As you’ve probably noticed by now, this is not like the average career listing… because we’re not looking for an average person.

We’ve done our best to both attract the best person for the role, and repel anyone who is not right for it (like any good marketing message should).

The ball is now in your court.

Below, you’ll find a form that’s been specifically designed for this role (please choose the right one from the list), and fill it in, in detail.

We will shortly followup with a series of responses including a first review, testing, a phone interview, a 2-3 hour in-person interview via Zoom, and reference calls.

An A-Player will breeze through the application process, whereas a B-Player will not.

One final message before we finish: If you don’t have a strong interest in learning and personal development, you will, unfortunately, find that you’ll be left behind by the growth of the rest of the team. We ask that you please do not apply for this role.
