‘To photograph is to hold one’s breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It’s at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.’ —Henri Cartier-Bresson
It takes a great amount of patience to photograph wildlife. Animals don’t always do what you expect them to do—but, if you get lucky, you could end up capturing a beautiful authentic moment.
However, luck is the result of a lot of hard work and preparation.
Once you have a subject in mind you will need to think about their behaviour and habits. Where does your subject live? What time of day are they most active? How do they move and how fast?
What type of lens will you use? Which camera settings do you think will work best? Will you use a tripod or shoot handheld? Plan all of this beforehand to make sure you are ready when the perfect moment comes!
Capturing a great wildlife picture is a lot like hunting, except that you’re shooting with a camera, and what you’re bringing home are beautiful images.
The challenge this week is to find and capture ‘wildlife’ photos.
This can be achieved in many different ways. It can be your family dog, the squirrel in your local park, or even some animals from your local zoo. Remember to be patient and keep an eye out for the perfect moment.
The top 10 submissions will be carefully chosen by the ExpertPhotography team and then shared with a trusted group of photographers who will decide on the winner.
You only have 7 days to submit your entry, so get out there and start shooting!
